Communication Tip #3

I guess till the time you might have finished Word Power Made Easy or few with turtle pace like me will finish in a while for sure.

So ready for the next lesson...don't frown as I will try my level best to make the learning simple and fun.

So by now you know the gestures and a sound vocabulary to be an effective communicator.
But are these the only requirements to achieve your goal.

Before I start, let me tell you one story of one of my beloved friend .....Wait ....I am not going to tell what this story is all about. All I could reveal is that he is a Journalist by profession now and his name is Jay who used to be an introvert.

Amazed!! How an introvert can be a Journalist??
Everything is possible if you are determined enough.
Accept your flaws and work on it every single day.

No more Gyan, coming back to the story of glory of Jay Kumar.
He was an average and fun loving student in his school days.
With friends he was a verbose but whenever it came to performing on stage he always took a back step. Yes,you guessed it right he had stage fear.No matter how many times he participated in speech, debate and stage performances(Forcefully),he failed. He was never concerned about his stage fear.He passed his SSC and HSC but still the stage fear was like a nightmare for him.He never wanted to face it.He accepted the fact that he can never overcome this fear.

One thing I forgot to tell you is that he loved writing and was an avid writer.Yes,used to maintain his diary starting from his childhood.Nobody except his closed ones was aware about this.
First question which pops up in our mind is that he was friendly,an avid writer then why he had stage fear.

Many a times we are bothered about what people will say, what would be their reaction and these whirlpool of thoughts hold us back from overcoming the fear.

Wake up and smell some coffee,it is about your life  and what you think about yourself is what matters.

But he was unaware of the fact that he cannot hold this fear anymore if he wants to succeed in his professional life.

He got admission in BA in mass communications, this was the turning point in his life.
First year he tried hard but could not match with the traits required to become a successful journalist.
Second year,he promised to himself no matter what he will overcome the stage fear.
Determination and perseverance is more than enough to achieve anything in life.
He started participating in extracurricular activities, stage performances anything and everything which could help him to overcome his fear.

I have heard a lot that hard work pays off but Jay was the first person to make me realize it does.
He became an avid reader, stage performer and an amazing confident communicator.
So,what he did?

Communication Tip-1

People often look for tips and advises how to become a smart and impressive communicator.
But to be true there is no such magical trick to enhance your vocabulary and communication skills.

The only secrete recipe to be a smart and impressive anchorperson/communicator is constant reading and writing.

To start with you can start reading any topic which interests you or you do not get bored of, so that gradually you will start enjoying reading.Need not to mention read good stuffs, well written and trendy topics.Only reading is not going  to help you to become an outstanding communicator. We read lots of stuffs in our daily life but are we going to remember all those,I guess everybody knows a big No.So your task does not end up here, take out at least half an hour in a day and start writing.
Gradually you will be an addict and you will heed towards building a good vocabulary. No do not think it is going to happen in a month or two,its a gradual process(One needs to be dedicated).
This was the first step towards your goal of becoming an effective communicator.
Have you seen people with very good vocab, grammar and are intelligent of course but when it comes to expressing they fail or they sound disgusting, yes I  mean it.Sometimes it happens.
I am sure now you know that may be building a good vocab and reading is the first step towards this journey but it does not end here.

Muddled??

No need to fret or panic. Here you go
Make eye to eye contact while having a conversation when meeting personally, yes it means a lot and boosts your confidence increasing the chances of being understood.
Just recall any instance when you were communicating with a person putting your heads down or looking here and there making yourself look miserable in-front of the other person.
Not to mention we all have that one awkward moment but better not to repeat  if we are clever enough.
Second, making hand movements while communicating is never a bad idea. Many people make fun of it but it reflects how much you are enjoying your conversation with the person.
So if you are already doing this, congratulations you have already mastered one skill.
Another secret is voice modulations,if the phrase requires the attention of your listener emphasize it.
Last but not the least be a good listener all these tips are going to be futile if you are not an effective listener.
These are the basics to start with......and will save you from facing any brunt on this front.

The problem with communication is the illusion that it has been accomplished-George Bernard Shaw
